It was simple and over pretty quickly, and sometimes you just need to refresh yourself from other more complicated and emotional novels with something quick and easy. Again, I want to use the excuse that it’s a middle-grade novel, but there’s other novels at this level that do a much better job at working with characterization than this novel.Įither way, this was a pretty entertaining read, and I actually enjoyed reading it. I couldn’t find much depth in them, even as they seemed to grow much closer to each other. Instead, he would have her find it in her hands later, as if it was something just happening to her, rather than out of her own volition. What I particularly loved was how Burt dealt with her kleptomania. She’s funny and entertaining, and she’s able to keep a reader’s attention. Tweens (I’d only really recommend this to tweens) will enjoy Nicki’s POV throughout the book, especially as she looks for a place to belong. There’s no real complications, and the whole thing is really unrealistic, but it’s cute. It’s also quite a simple novel: cute, short, and sweet. As you might tell by the short summary above, it’s about a girl going into Witness Protection. Greetings from Witness Protection!is a middle-grade fiction novel by Jake Burt. Suddenly, she’s offered a family in Witness Protection, meant to help them blend in. It might be that she used to be a thief, or just that she might just be too much, but it never works out. Nicki has lived in many foster homes, but none seems to have stuck.
